DUBAI 2019 [August 25th, 4:00PM]
Chapter 1 T/W: sliiiiiiiiiight smut Words: 1427
There’s something about the air in Dubai that is different to that of any other—a crackle of electricity in the atmosphere that could only be felt otherwise in New York or Paris. All three cities had an aura to them that was unmatched by any other, distinct in their own individual ways and yet similar because of this distinction; a sense of the evergreen hope and a head full of dreams. There was an ever-present consolation that even after the darkest night, the sun would shine down more gloriously than ever.
Most times you couldn’t see the stars in the blanket of darkness that hung over these cities—some nights, if you were lucky, you’d maybe see Orion. But you found it difficult to lament over the loss of such a highly romanticised view when there were lights that sparkled brighter than any star that Earth saw, if only you chose to lower your gaze upon mankind’s most brilliantly engineered creations. Skyscrapers that stood taller than your eyes could see as if to prove that yes, the endless sky is the limit.
Or perhaps you just loved cities far too much.
As you stared at the reflection of the Louboutins that adorned your feet in the mirrored walls of the elevator, you could only be thankful for the modern paradise that Dubai is today, that it always served as a prime location for anything that was high-end luxury—innovation in fashion, technology, architecture, art.
And apparently, Korean music videos.
The red-bottomed soles clicked in a familiar rhythm as you stepped out of the elevator and walked across the marble tiles of your boutique.
These pair of shoes were ones that always raised eyebrows—not in the awed way that you were used to but rather with surprise. The Christereva nude heels from the 2017 collection, with soles that still weren’t worn out since you hardly ever wore them, looked as new as they did on the day that you’d received them.
Why the surprise then?
You stopped at the floor-to-ceiling windows facing the impressive skyline, flecks of white and yellow lights scattered over all the skyscrapers that gleamed and blinked across the dark sky. Your gaze shifted from the view outside and lowered, focusing instead on the reflection of your shoes in the glass pane of the window.
They were old. You could count the number of times that you’d worn them on one hand but the truth was that in the world that you belonged, they were seasons old and to still possess it was considered fashion suicide—you, one of the world’s most esteemed designers, were breaking an unwritten rule by daring to still wear them.
Surely the confused newspapers and fashion magazines would be less surprised if they knew your reason as to why it was one of your most cherished possessions, why you had sentimental attachment to it that made your heart worry like a child about wearing it out yet you used it as a burst of confidence to lift your spirits when you were especially low—kind of like a lucky charm.
Your phone suddenly dinged with an exclusive notification bell that never failed to make your heart skip as you quickly opened the message, an uncontrollable grin spreading over your face.
[4:03] The Eagle has landed ;)
A soft laugh escaped your parted lips, your chest feeling like it would explode with barely suppressed excitement as you start to type out a response. Your thumbs freeze over the keypad as three dots appear before another message appears: [4:06] I’ve literally just landed tho so I’ll call once I reach the hotel, ok? I have to go through immigration now. Your reply is instant: [4:07] Which hotel again? [4:07] Vida. Downtown Dubai.
You grin as you quickly respond: [4:08] See you soon xx and start to make your way quickly out of the boutique, the echo of your heels reminding you of the very first time that you’d held these Louboutins in your hands – your first gift from your boyfriend, the Eagle that had apparently just landed.
Byun Baekhyun.
[6:15PM]
It’s dark when you finally drive your car to the narrow alley behind the Vida Downtown Hotel, glancing at the rear-view mirror to fix your hair. You check your phone and read through Baekhyun’s schedules at Dubai that he had sent you last week, startling when you suddenly hear the trunk open.
You glance up to see Manager at the back of the car, throwing bags in and turn your head to your right to see a familiar yet unfamiliar tuft of pink hair shining like a beacon in the darkness as he opens the door and slides in.
“Baekhyun,” you can barely say his name from how hard you’re grinning. “Hi—”
The words disappear into his chest as he yanks you into a bone-crushing hug over the gearshift, arms wrapping tightly around you.
“God, I missed you so much,” he breathes loudly into your ear, pulling away once he hears the trunk door slam close.
You blink as you look up at him, eyes stinging slightly as you try not to cry from all the adrenalin rushing through your system when you finally feel his embrace, finally smell his perfume and finally see his perfect face upfront after what seemed like forever.
Baekhyun grabs your face in his hands and you notice a movement outside the window, your voice sounding slightly distorted as you say, “Wait, Manager, I have to greet him—”
“Okay, hey, don’t choose your boyfriend’s manager over him right now, it’s been almost, what, six months?” He squishes your cheeks together, giving you a smile as he finally greets you, “Hi.”
“Hi,” you answer shyly, feeling flushed with exhilaration and Baekhyun leans forward to kiss you.
Your body instantly melts, like you were butter and he was the afternoon sun as his hands lowered from your face to your neck, angling your head to deepen the kiss and moulding his lips to yours passionately. Your own fingers clutch at the front of his hoodie, relishing in the familiar taste of his plush lips, realising in that second how much you’d missed having them pressed against you.
Baekhyun’s hands lower further from your neck to your shoulders, sliding down the curves of your arms and slowly going to your front to grab your breasts. You moan into the kiss, practically collapsing back into your seat as your arms sling around his neck to pull him further into you, the intense burning of love and yearning that was swimming in your body making you almost dizzy with how alive your nerves suddenly felt—almost as if they’d been numb for all the months that he’d been away.
“Baek,” you gasp, pulling away for air and resisting the urge to kiss him breathless again when you see his swollen pink lips.
“We-we should go,” you stutter quickly, eyes darting to the windows. “The area’s pretty crowded, a lot of the fans are still waiting at the front of the hotel.”
“It’s okay,” he reassures you, trying to dive in again and glaring when you duck to avoid him. “They’re at the front. This is the back, I got out through the backdoor of the kitchen in the restaurant—they can’t follow me here.”
“Yes, but they can go around the building,” you explain, rolling your eyes when he pouts in annoyance. You peck a quick kiss on his cheek, pushing him back into his seat as you start the car again. “Relax, Baek, we’re together now. Let’s go home, you told me you’re sick of hotels anyway.”
He grins at that, taking your hand from the gearshift and raising it to his face, pressing a kiss to each of your knuckles. You bite back a smile at the sweet gesture as you drive out of the alley and onto the main streets.
“I’m already home,” he mumbles, closing his eyes as he leans his head back on the seat. You stop at the signal and turn to look at him then, smiling slightly when he continues, “Whether it’s teokbokkis at Paris, streets of Milan, the dorms at Seoul. As long as you’re around, its home.”
You try to suppress the grin that’s tempting to burst as you instead tease, “Still cheesy, huh?”
He opens an eye and smirks at you. “What about you? Still kinky?”
“Let go of my hand so I can drive you home faster and maybe you can find out for yourself, Byun Baekhyun.”

An Epilogue, and a Prelude
Trigger warning: suicidal thoughts, abuse, depression.
The past few months have been a complete whirlwind, and I have to find space and time where everything isn’t upside down in order to write this blog post. Even when I do, it seems like writing a dissertation: I don’t know where to start. In this case, the next best thing is to start from the middle. It’s a bit of a wonky story anyway.
June 2018: My room is in boxes. It seems as though my whole life, my past, my home, my beginnings are in boxes. I have a strange relationship with Dubai, but I cannot deny that it is my fundamental vessel of knowing the world.
For the past few months, we’ve known this shift was coming, but we had no real idea where our destination was. Now, any mention of the Kingdom of Bahrain and our ears perk up. My sister’s first reaction is excitement: “we’re going to live in an actual kingdom??”
I smirk and explain to her that this makes her a commoner, and it’s nothing grand. She sticks her tongue out at me.
July 2018: The party is wonderful. Kuki’s (my sister) friends come over in the morning, and I have the pleasure of being the cool Older Sister in College. I give them counsel on movie choices and photo editing apps. This giggling bunch of 13 year olds turn our sitting room into a cave of popcorn bits and hilarious stories about that boy in their math tuition (he puts so much gel in his hair, it looks like a wall!!). Cue more giggles. I can’t help but smile to myself and wonder what I was like at this age. Probably just as full of wonder as they are.
My friends show up in the evening. I have written them letters. Everything feels so final. The internet is powerful, I think, but I don’t know if Snapchat streaks will keep our bonds going. With the last six months of my life being so psychologically draining, I have my doubts about all the relationships I’ve ever held close. These school friends are no exception, but once faced with the circumstance of having to let go of my proximity with them - all the memories come flooding back. Evenings spent ogling at boys on the football field, paintings made in the art room in utter silence, knowing stares across the classroom when an opportunity for an inside joke presented itself. Chits passed in class. Carefully curated lists of songs scribbled onto notebook paper for someone who was going through a tough time. Dreams of mansions and multiple dogs and endless sleepovers. Comparing hands after class to see whose fingers were the most stained by all that blue ink.
And all of it to culminate in this. Dinner cooked by my mother, Rick and Morty on TV, and a bunch of flashbacks. One of us is here in a suit: he comes straight here after work. Some of us (almost) lawyers, scientists, designers, programmers, bankers. All of us crazy and known to each other since before we could spell.
We sit on this couch one last time, and cut cake. The party is over, and the house is quiet again.
April 2018: Every bone in my body is pushing me to fling my frail self off the sixth floor. I can’t do this anymore. I cannot be this burden on everyone I love. I have reduced myself to a cavity in a wallet, and convinced myself that I am nothing more. My eyes never leave the floor anymore. I can recognise everyone in college by their shoes, so I know who is going to stop to say hi, and who will push into me like I was never there. Since February, I have barely shown up to my commitments - social, academic, or professional. Nobody has noticed. I spend all day in bed, imagining murals on my dorm room ceiling. This is a slow death I would not wish on anyone. I don’t remember the last time I’ve talked to somebody and they’ve said anything that resonates. Resonating implies feeling. I’ve lost that ability.
It’s an artifical state of being. Even leaves quiver in the wind. Flowers bloom. The stomach of a tiger rumbles. A bear snores in the winter. A mosquito bites. Me, I am a corpse. I do not hear the sound of my own heartbeat. I still have the freedom to cry, to know pain, to abuse myself constantly. I still have the ability to call myself a slut, a liability, a dunce, a fool. This much of myself I retain. All else is lost to the winter winds. And still, all I can think about is how much worse off my parents must be. They’re the ones hit by one man’s decision to liquidate an empire. They’re the ones who have to pay the bills: their own and mine. So I go for job interviews, knowing I will get it and decline, because I have committed myself to watching the murals on the ceiling.
And so one day, all the feelings I have reserved since New Year’s Day erupt in me. My body is quietly convulsing on the floor of my modestly-sized dormitory and I am possessed by Death itself. I imagine it is much like purging. Kind of like I’m forcefully sticking two fingers down my throat so that my gag reflex could somehow choke up my soul and leave me be. Even the One Thought I always use to knock sense into myself in these kinds of situations does not work. I tell myself: your sister. she will never forgive you. how will you forgive yourself if you leave her?
and then, Death speaks, in a raspy, alarming voice: she is old enough. she will be fine. get on with it.
This sends alarm bells to all corners of my brain, and I somehow drag myself out of the room (consciously avoiding looking down) and then knock feebly on the next door. A familiar face opens it: a batchmate I don’t talk to very often. At that point, I must have looked like a sputtering pressure cooker in a kaftan at that point. All tears, unwashed hair and runny nose, I don’t remember much of what happened next but she and her friend took care of me well enough for me to mutter something about sadness and then black out.
The next day, I am invited to dinner with The Girl Who Opened The Door and her father, along with some of her friends. I am unsure. My first reaction is to be embarrassed of my pouring out into her the previous night.
At dinner, I feel safe. After a long time, the presence of an adult who knows what he is doing - a parental adult - comforts me like nothing could. I shake her father’s hand, and my palm goes limp from the exhaustion of last night’s episode. We go to The French Window, and order lavishly. I haven’t seen this much food in a while. I eat until the table is clean and still, I am hungry. I have never felt so tired in my life.
May 2018: In the six months before I turn 19, I have been hit hard in the face with reality, crumbled from a throne I did not know was made of matchsticks, been nearly assaulted twice, and found love in a place I did not know I needed to look in. Things are still tough, but now I have sisters to lighten the load. They are taking me out to dinner on the eve of my birthday. As it seems, our friendship revolves around dinners and doors. The three of us sit down, chat, and toast to us. I still cannot be grateful enough for the strange synchronicity of our lives. They did not have to pick me up out of darkness, dust the dirt off my shoulders, and pretty much carry me until my legs gained feeling again. But they did. They still do.
late August 2018: I wake up at 6:00 AM. I cannot sleep for longer, no matter what time I sleep. My father video calls me, and gives me a tour of the new apartment. I drink my post-work-out tea and smile at the emptiness of it. It’s so much space. So many ways to start over.

Trump, Europeans call Saudi account of Khashoggi death inadequate
ELKO, Nev./ISTANBUL (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump joined European leaders on Saturday in pushing Saudi Arabia for more answers about Jamal Khashoggi after Riyadh changed its story and acknowledged that the journalist died more than two weeks ago at its consulate in Istanbul.
Saudi Arabia said early on Saturday that Khashoggi, a critic of the country’s de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, had died in a fight inside the building.
Germany called that explanation “inadequate” and questioned whether countries should sell arms to Saudi Arabia, while France and the European Union urged an in-depth investigation to find out what happened to the Washington Post columnist after he entered the consulate on Oct. 2 for documents for his marriage.
Turkish officials suspect Khashoggi, a Saudi national and U.S. resident, was killed inside the consulate by a team of Saudi agents and his body cut up.
The Khashoggi case has caused international outrage and frayed political and business ties between Western powers and U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, the world’s No.1 oil exporter.
Asked during a trip to Nevada if he was satisfied that Saudi officials had been fired over Khashoggi’s death, Trump said: “No, I am not satisfied until we find the answer. But it was a big first step, it was a good first step. But I want to get to the answer.”
In an interview with the Washington Post, Trump said that “obviously there’s been deception, and there’s been lies.”
Trump’s comments about the Khashoggi incident in recent days have ranged from threatening Saudi Arabia with “very severe” consequences and warning of economic sanctions, to more conciliatory remarks in which he has played up the country’s role as a U.S. ally against Iran and Islamist militants, as well as a major purchaser of U.S. arms.
He had earlier called the Saudi narrative of what happened to Khashoggi credible.
Riyadh provided no evidence on Saturday to support its account and made no mention of what had become of Khashoggi’s body.
LATEST SAUDI VERSION
As Saudi Arabia faced intensifying international scepticism over its story, a senior Saudi official laid out a new version of the death in which a team of 15 Saudi nationals sent to confront Khashoggi had threatened him with being drugged and kidnapped and then killed him in a chokehold when he resisted. A member of the team then dressed in Khashoggi’s clothes to make it appear as if he had left the consulate.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called for a full investigation into the killing and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in a joint statement with her foreign minister, said the Saudi account was not enough.
“We expect transparency from Saudi Arabia about the circumstances of his death … The information available about events in the Istanbul consulate is inadequate,” the Germans said.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called into question the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia.
Canada’s Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said Riyadh’s explanations lacked consistency and credibility.
Trump said it was possible that Prince Mohammed had been unaware of the circumstances around the death of Khashoggi, 59.
FILE PHOTO: Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi speaks at an event hosted by Middle East Monitor in London Britain, September 29, 2018. Picture taken September 29, 2018. Middle East Monitor/Handout via REUTERS/File Photo
For Western allies, a main question will be whether they believe that the prince, who has painted himself as a reformer, has any culpability. King Salman, 82, had handed the day-to-day running of Saudi Arabia to him.
Trump, who has forged close ties with Saudi Arabia and the crown prince, said he was concerned that it was unclear where the journalist’s body is.
SEARCH FOR BODY
According to the senior Saudi official, the Saudi team rolled up Khashoggi’s body in a rug, took it out in a consular vehicle and handed it to a “local cooperator” for disposal.
One of the operatives then donned Khashoggi’s clothes, eyeglasses and Apple watch and left through the back door of the consulate in an attempt to make it look like Khashoggi had walked out of the building, the senior Saudi official said.
Turkish investigators are likely to find out what happened to the corpse “before long”, a senior Turkish official said earlier on Saturday.
Officials told Reuters in Turkey on Thursday that Khashoggi’s remains may have been dumped in Belgrad Forest adjacent to Istanbul, and at a rural location near the city of Yalova, 90 km (55 miles) south of Istanbul,
Turkish sources say the authorities have an audio recording purportedly documenting Khashoggi’s murder inside the consulate. Pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak, citing the audio, said his torturers cut off his fingers during an interrogation and later beheaded him.
Trump said no one from his administration has seen video or a transcript of what happened inside the consulate.

Khashoggi’s Turkish fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, tweeted in Arabic: “They have taken your body from this world, but your beautiful smile will stay in my world forever.”
Saudi Arabia had previously denied that Khashoggi died in the consulate.
But the Saudi public prosecutor said on Saturday that a fight broke out between Khashoggi and people who met him in the building, leading to his death. Eighteen Saudi nationals had been arrested, the prosecutor said.
Saudi state media said King Salman had ordered the dismissal of five officials, including Saud al-Qahtani, a royal court adviser seen as the right-hand man to Prince Mohammed, and deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Asiri.
The crisis prompted the king to intervene, five sources with links to the Saudi royal family told Reuters.
The king also ordered a restructuring of the intelligence service, to be led by Prince Mohammed, suggesting the prince still retained wide-ranging authority.
The dismissed official Qahtani, 40, rose to prominence after latching onto Prince Mohammed, becoming a rare confidant in his inner circle.
Sources say Qahtani would regularly speak on behalf of the crown prince and has given direct orders to senior officials including in the security apparatus.
The New York Times reported on Saturday, citing U.S. and Saudi officials, that Qahtani created the strategy behind the deployment an online army to harass Khashoggi and other critics of the kingdom on Twitter.
People close to Khashoggi and the government said Qahtani had tried to lure the journalist back to Saudi Arabia after he moved to Washington a year ago fearing reprisals for his views.
Asiri joined the Saudi military in 2002, according to Saudi media reports, serving as spokesman for a coalition backing Yemen’s ousted president after Prince Mohammed took Saudi Arabia into that country’s civil war in 2015. He was named deputy chief of foreign intelligence in 2017.

面台会食
We arrived at Kyoto by the super fast bullet train passing wonderful views of mount Fuji on the way albeit blink and you’d miss it.
We’d booked a hotel a few minutes from the train station so as not to have to walk with our luggage too far. After 10 minutes of walking and several comments as to the the accuracy of Expedia’s description of “a couple of minutes walk” we found the hotel. Unfortunately it wasn’t our hotel, google maps had let me down again, as it seems to so often. We are still not really getting the hang of Japan. Once we had arrived at the correct hotel Dawn stood for 5 minutes waiting at a disabled toilet door thinking it was a lift. I have put bleach in my eyes after buying some kind of contact lens solution that I really needed to read the instructions and dawn nearly bought Imodium for paracetamol. Japan really needs to learn English, get in the 21st century and stop using little pictures of houses to communicate. It’s dangerous!
Exploring Kyoto was something I had looked forward to, it was the imperial capital of japan for a thousand years and so has Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples galore, is also the home of lots of geishas and to 1.5 million Japanese who seemed to all be out on the day we visited. Having done enough walking in Tokyo we decided to hire bikes in Kyoto, I had a clear plan of where we would visit including Nijo castle, Geisha town, the infamous philosophers path with the cherry blossoms in bloom and various shrines in between. What actually happened was we got lost, tried to bike up the busiest street in Japan, had a row and were about 2 weeks too early for cherry blossoms. In between shouting at each other we did seem to cover the major sites or at least we think we’d did as there’s no English anywhere.
Having visited the temple (purely by accident) where the Last Samurai was filmed we decided to watch the film which includes 0 historical facts but we could say “been there” at various points. Surprisingly and somewhat disappointingly 2018 Japan doesn’t feature a great deal of Samurai or Karate kids or Geisha although you can pay to dress up for a day but Dawn was reluctant. The following day the weather had turned cold and wet, after visiting the castle (not so much of a castle and more of an empty house) rescheduled from the previous day we decided to go to the cinema in the warm. They were showing the Greatest Showman in English with Japanese subtitles so we went for it. The Japanese think everything is rude, this apparently extends to leaving a film before the last credit is shown. We sat for a good ten minutes in silence until the lights went up and the film stopped rolling. We then left the auditorium in silence only broken by me giggling like you do when you are supposed to be quiet. Osaka is just down the road from Kyoto, famous for featuring on superdry t shirts, street food and as Dawn had read, retro video games from the 80’s, so we went there. Our first food tasting from a street vendor was Takoyaki, which looked like batter balls with a choice of toppings. Dawn chose salt and pepper and mayonnaise (??). Had we paid more attention we may have noticed the content of said balls prior to dawn spitting one out. Octopus. Bin.
Dawn played pac man for a while we ate more dirty street food, I had a beer and returned to Kyoto. Our next destination was Hiroshima, obviously famous for being flattened in seconds by an atomic bomb in 1945 along with 150,000 people. The a-bomb museum was sobering and shocking, Dawn was clearly affected by the experience and joined a peace protest involving her being photographed holding a picture of a dove. She is now probably on a political activist black list after signing something indecipherable in the process.
Next on our food list was okonomiyaki a Hiroshima speciality, I won’t lie japan has become a food tour for us now with the odd temple thrown to appease our conscience and the lonely planet guide book. Today’s delight was made by two Japanese ladies on a huge hot plate and featured batter, noodles, seaweed, pork and egg, topped with a sticky sauce and washed down with a now obligatory beer by me.
After a crappy rain day and a quick trip to Miyajima island, this time to see a “floating” shrine, we headed into the Kiso valley to walk in the path of the Samurai on the Nakesendo trail, the old road from Tokyo to Kyoto. We started at an old postal town of Magome and would walk 8k to Tsumago. On the walk we were invited in to share some green tea with Mr Miyagi and enjoyed a pork bun thing and more tea with Mr Miyagi mk 2. Despite being warned to be “bear aware” on the trail I was disappointed not to see one but not really surprised as Dawn rung every bear bell so loudly the bears in Canada probably heard it.
We tried to check in at yet another wrong hotel and after getting lost trying to find another one, 3 months into our trip Dawn has now demanded she take over navigation responsibilities - 5 days before we go home. Nob. She did however navigate us to a beautiful park featuring some much awaited cherry blossom which finished our amazing Japanese experience perfectly.
And so two white, non-religious, females in a same sex relationship leave Japan. Where could we possibly go - Dubai of course, where else? We had ummed and ahhed about stopping in Dubai as it probably represents everything we consider wrong in the world, that added to the fact we could get arrested and deported made us quite apprehensive. However, the allure of 4 days in the sunshine got the better of our principles. We haven’t ventured far from our very western Sheraton hotel though, only as far as the Burj Khalifa and Nando’s. For the rest of the time before our flight home we have sat by the pool reminiscing on favourite parts of our trip and debating where our next one will be...........

Up to this day Kris never fell in love with any one like Marcus. Kris began smoking heavily and did not tell his parents until later. By then he had lost his singing voice. Kris and Sarah then grew apart. When Kris became 18 he decided to become a broadcaster. He flew all the way to Vancouver Canada to study radio and television. When Bev did not have any left Kris was desperate for an ecstasy pill and so he went to East Hastings in Vancouver a known place for drug dealers. So Kris met one guy and the guy told him he would take him to his place to get ecstasy. Naive as Kris was he followed that young thug into an alley. Kris felt something was wrong but it was too late. Kris found himself cornered by 3 guys. They all took out big knives and Kris panicked. But then he felt God speak to him and calmed him Down. Kris said that after he felt the presence of god , God fed him the words to tell these thugs. Kris said: "I know all you want is money so here I am opening up all my wallet and putting all my money on the floor. You don't want to kill anyone today, think of what will happen to you if you became killers." So Kris emptied his wallet on the floor and all the cash was on the ground then Kris slowly walked away and these thugs did nothing to him. From that on Kris made a promise to himself never to do drugs again. Kris had a blast in college and was assigned to the biggest murder court case of 2003. Kris's story got major headlines. 3 months before graduating Kris got a terrible stalker. Kris would be awakened at night at 3am almost every night when the security lights came on and he would see the shadow of a man behind the curtains right in front of his bedroom door. Kris had a Brazilian roommate called Bernardo and so he told him that. Most stalking cases end up in rape or murder. Bernardo took this very seriously and told Kris that if that happened again he would wake him and tell him. 3 days later Kris was awakened by some noise so he looked at his window and now the security lights were on. Kris's Window was slightly open and he saw a hand reaching in. Before Kris told Bernardo he opened the curtains to see who this this nightmare of a person was. When Kris opened the curtains he saw man wearing a red cap but he could not see his face because this pervert had a video camera closeup to his face and all Kris would see was the red light of the video camera and the man was waving at him and breathing heavily. Kris immediately screamed and Bernardo came into his room by then the man was running away. And Bernardo saw the man running. So he immediately called the police and before 3 minutes, 4 police cars surrounded the house. Kris and Bernardo told the police that this had been going on for 3 months. And in the end the police said that unfortunately there is nothing they can do unless this evil stalker tries to break in or commit an actual threat. They advised Kris to set up security cameras outside the house so they can ID the man. A month later Kris had graduated and moved back to to Dubai. A month later Kris moved to London, England and did some radio work. Kris absolutely loved central London. Convent garden and Leicester square were his favorite places. He loved going with his Japanese friend to Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge for afternoon tea. Kris loved shopping at Harrods all the time. He often went went to Nobu his favorite Japanese restaurant in London. Kris loves the lavish luxurious lifestyle. His parents always gave him a posh lifestyle. Whatever Kris wanted he got. Lily was the most wonderful and generous person on earth in Kris's eyes and could do no wrong. Whenever his parents would shout or fight with Kris she was his number one bodyguard and lawyer. In 2010 Kris was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He suffered from extreme hallucinations of persecution. Its always trial and error with psychiatrists. It took Kris 3 long horrible years for him to finally get the right anti psychotic medication. Kris hosted over 10 radio shows online. He acted in commercials from when he was 8 with his mom. Found - Stolen laundry update
So I posted this morning that my laundry was stolen
http://ift.tt/2l8DAz8
Here's an update.
So I come back from some home cooked dinner at a relatives' (since i have been unwell), spoke to the building security for what I hoped to be the last time today who promised an update early tomorrow morning, when I hear a familiar rustling at the door. I rush to the door, and lo and behold, all my clothes are back. One side of my corridor is visible to me, the other sides has some bends. So i run to the side with the bends (with no shoes on) and thats when I hear a click in the staircase door behind me. The mysterious person had disappeared. I call up security and they start rewinding their videos to see who visited me. They are really slow, so i decided to call it a day. Finally about an hour later my bell rings, it is a lady who speaks only Arabic. I call up an Arabic speaking friend to help translate, and turns out she said she took the clothes because they looked like her friends clothes. Who takes a friends clothes? If i see my friend clothes hanging from someone else's door, i give them a ring. I don't accidentally steal someone elses clothes. She also said that she rang my door bell a few times, but no one answered. If i can hear someone hang clothes, i can bloody well hear the door bell. So I ask my friend to translate which flat she lives in, and she gave me the wrong flat number. Why lie? The lady was obviously trying to cover up for someone. I am more perplexed than ever. I have requested the security for some footage to take action in case the lady is lying, because let's face it, no one takes 24 hours to realise that the clothes they took don't belong to them. And then you don't hang the clothes back and run away, only to come back and ring the bell 2 hours later.
I did force myself to go out to buy a few clothes. 'twas a good thing that i was down with the weather and was content with just two shirts to last me till the weekend.
I am tired now but the mystery is now driving me crazy. Will keep you guys updated.
TL;DR Clothes are back. Someone hung them on my door and bolted. Strangely a lady came and rang my bell 2 hours later, to claim that she took my clothes. I don't believe the lady's story, and requested the security to get me footage.

Nasi goreng with hot dogs
thirstDays No. 11 Eat Rice Yet?
When I was a kid I was allergic to wheat and dairy. In those days, words like “gluten free” were definitely not found on all manner of food packaging or in a dedicated section of the grocery store like they are now. Being a kid, my fondness of vegetables was also limited. So I ate a lot of meat and I happened to absolutely love it. Every Halloween my Opa would give me a dried sausage that I would savour for weeks, taking it out of the fridge every day and delicately nibbling away at it. In any case, my mother had her work cut out for her when it came to getting vegetables in my mouth — even more so because dinner time was my bad temper’s golden hour.
One solution whose flavour has stuck on my tongue was nasi goreng, or “fried rice.” Being from a Dutch family on my mother’s side, Indonesian food was common, a lasting connection to the Netherland’s colonial ties with that country. An amalgam of leftovers with fried rice wrapped in a warm smoky flavour, the nasi goreng of my childhood involved cut pieces of hot dog and frozen peas. I would help my mother or watch as she moved the rice around our heavy yellow wok. Red flecks of chilli. Bright and happy green peas. A bubbling pot of wieners. My mother humming, singing and whistling as she moves about the house, opening the windows to air the smell from the kitchen.
As an adult I introduced nasi goreng to the man who is now my husband, though without the hot dogs and with a great deal more sambal, a chilli sauce that I always have on hand in our house.
Eat Rice Yet? curated by Henry Tsang and Diyan Achjadi, was tightly organized around the smells, tastes, sights and memories of food and drink. The experience of food, of sharing a meal, which has been present to varying degrees in all of the thirstDays events, was here given its full due, allowing the cross-cultural, familial, political, and spiritual nature of food to come to fruition—a rich and complex broth simmering under attentive eyes. I kept thinking about the entirety of the event as a recipe in itself, with all the flavours of sake, horchata and kimbap enriched and accented by the presentation of video, story and song. The star, of course, was rice, taking centre stage with humble grace and gravity as a meal in itself, a side dish, a carrier of delicious sauces, a container for fish and vegetables, full of potential. Each presentation of the evening enriched the appreciation of rice in itself and illuminated profound connections and separations between us. Rice was an active agent within this, a proposition for new understandings.
Michael Rakowitz’s Dar Al Sulh (Domain of Conciliation) (2013) began the evening with the words, “You know it really is a pity how we treat each other now. I know you can’t forgive me but forgive me anyhow?”1 A video document of the restaurant project that operated in Dubai for one week and served Iraqi-Jewish cuisine, Dar Al Sulh refers to a legal territory or domain in which an agreement between Muslims and non-Muslims ensures the freedom of religion, autonomy and protection for all. The project stems from Rakowitz’s ongoing Enemy Kitchen (2003-) where he teaches participants to cook recipes compiled with his Iraqi-Jewish mother, creating the conditions for a discussion of Iraqi culture in America that moves beyond media portrayals. Similarly, Dar Al Sulh presents possibilities for the representation and interaction of Iraqi and Jewish culture in the wake of Jewish exodus from Arab lands in the 1940s. Serving platters sourced from antiques dealers in Israel that survived the journey of the Iraqi Jews out of Iraq, parallel the preciousness of the cuisine served as both the recipes themselves and the Iraqi Jewish Arabic language are under threat of being lost. “You are eating a dying language from the plate of a ghost,” words adorning the window of the restaurant, remind visitors of the implications of the experience they are having despite the conviviality of it all.
Following the screening, Meeru Dhalwala, co-owner of Vij’s and Rangoli in Vancouver, gave a talk—”A Grain of Rice, a Pot of Rice”—about opening a restaurant in Seattle: Shanik. She attracted female staff who were immigrants and refugees from India, Ethiopia and Eritrea by visiting convenience stores and Walmarts and “greeting people who looked Indian,” advertising a safe place for women to work. What was immediately evident in Dhalwala’s talk was a sense of humour and honesty that comes from the practical realities of running a kitchen. She described the restaurant as a “cultural mess,” divided along ethnic lines with caucasian front-of-house staff, Indian cook staff, and Ethiopian and Eritrean cleaning staff. In rapid fire she discussed the many differences that kept these women separated: not speaking the same language, differences in religious beliefs, and dietary practices.
It was a slow and difficult process to bring these women together. The cuisines of their home countries share some common spices, so they learned the names of these in each other’s languages to break down barriers in communication. It wasn’t enough. One day, however, Dhalwala was cooking a simple rice pilaf with basmati, red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, turmeric, cilantro, jalapeño, and toasted cumin. It was a meal that everyone in the kitchen could eat, and they enjoyed it so much that they began to sharing it around the same table, even enticing the front of house staff to join in. The conditions for conversation were set and the kitchen staff had an unexpected (at least for the audience, perhaps) moment of bonding when Dhalwala casually asked one of the staff, who was Eritrean, if she would be interested in Oguz Istif, Dhalwala’s partner in the restaurant. This sent the entire kitchen staff into a disapproving frenzy because of Istif’s Muslim heritage. Dhalwala’s frankness about this experience of bonding over a shared discrimination against another had the audience laughing together. It was totally unidealized, stemming from long seated prejudices as well as the continued conditions of separation experienced by many immigrants and refugees in the United States as well as Canada. Despite this, their distance was lessened in the simple act of sharing rice. As she spoke, we were fed small cups of rice from Vij’s and shared in the retelling of this story.
First Intermission: I drink a cup of sake and eat kimbap, a Korean seaweed rice roll (or three).
The second act began with a meditative video work by Chee Wang Ng, 108 Global Rice Bowl (2008). The object of meditation is a rotation of white rice in white bowls, varied in shape and size, and shot against a cool grey background. A pair of pine-coloured chopsticks are laid in front, creating a diagonal line that moves off to the right of the screen. The composition is carefully considered. Each well rounded mound of rice is proportionate to its vessel. With each new bowl of rice, a chime sounds—similarly varied in its tone and pitch—and a different country is inserted into the phrase “Made in _____.” China and Japan make multiple appearances along with Canada, Thailand, Vietnam, France and many others. The 108 tones correspond to the number of beads in a Buddhist rosary, aligning the path to enlightenment, or the repetition of a powerful mantra, with the simple grace of rice. The connectivity between places of vast geographical distance is also brought to bare in the repetition of this similar image and object of contemplation, speaking to the movement of bodies and goods that transcend borders.
The video brought the audience to quiet attention and, at least for me, back into my sensing body. Fred Wah’s reading then promptly whisked me away again, and the distinction between the simplicity of Wang Ng’s video and the complex and vivid imagery of Wah’s stories (and the attendant differences between watching and listening) deeply enriched the experience of both works. Wah read from Diamond Grill (1996), a semi-fictional biography about growing up in his father’s restaurant in Nelson, as well as reading some newer material. I have never read Wah’s work before and was enraptured by his descriptions that brought memory and taste so close together that the two became indistinguishable. The selections were part recipe, part biography, observing the life of the town as much as the way the hand remembers the rhythm of cooking, rhythm that Wah brought to life again in words. The final note I wrote while listening to Wah was “the palpable flavour of words.”
I sat that with over the second intermission where I tried a different kind of sake and shared a cigarette in the cold December night.
As I came back in and got another cup of sake, Vanessa Richards took the stage. A Dark Welcome Table: Songs for Grace in Action was a multimedia and layered narrative told primarily from the perspective of a young black girl of Jamaican descent living in Vancouver in the era of the Vietnam War. It was a story about wrong names: about grapes and raisins and techniques for eating rice pudding; about being chased home from school by a white kid who kicked and spit on her door; about Phillis, the young Squamish “Indian” girl, and the story of the two sisters, the mountain peaks that are called Lions even though the narrator thinks they look more like tiger ears. This was the same story told by Mohawk writer E. Pauline Johnson in Legends of Vancouver (1911)2 but inflected with the energy of a shared tale between two young friends. As Phillis explained, the Squamish “let the Haida know they weren’t mad anymore,” allowing peace to come between the two great nations, which led to the creator placing the sisters on the highest mountain range at the end of their life so that we could continue to look upon them and feel peaceful. Richards broke out into song: “heartbeat, it’s a love beat.”3
She told us about an older boy, Adam, who looked like Muhammad Ali. “No Viet Cong ever called me a nigger.” She thought that Adam might knock out that white boy just like Ali, and wondered if Adam and Ali could stop the big war. A video a Ali is projected on the wall: “I’m gunna float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. George can’t hit what his hands can’t see!”4
Finally, Richards was joined by Anna Baignoche on guitar and they sang “Children of Darkness” by Richard & Mimi Fariña (1965), standing in front of a wall drawing of the two sisters, their peaks simply outlined in black with a few m-shaped birds flying in the sky. “Now is a time for your loving dear, and a time for your company. … And now in this age of confusion, I have need for rice pudding!”
Following this enrapturing performance, Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)” came on—which is my favourite Williams’ tune—and we all gathered around a table of rice dishes: Nasi Uduk with sweet coconut, Nasi Kuning with savoury turmeric. I drank a final cup of sake, this time from the Fraser Valley where the fertile soil supports rice agriculture, and talked with Henry about my memories of eating Nasi Goreng. I left buzzing on sake and the deep warmth that the sharing of food threads throughout all of history.

Kris would change schools every two years. His parents never understood why he would always act up. To begin with, Kris never had a normal childhood. He never had friends in school . It was only when his parents moved to another place in Dubai this time in a villa where his life started to change. Little did he know his next door neighbors would change his life forever. One night when Kris was walking his poodle bonny that he met Sarah. She was 5 years older than he was and invited him to her home. She had 3 brothers and they were all so welcoming to Kris. He continually was invited to their home. Kris started to feel good and became best friends with Sarah. Sarah's best friend Liz also became best friends with Kris. Sarah and her brothers were all musicians. Sarah played the piano beautifully. She then discovered that Kris had an amazing signing voice. His vocal range was 4 octaves. When Kris was 15 he was asked to sing oh holy night for Christmas. He sang it opera style in English and French. He made new friends and went to evening Bible studies with them. But as Kris continued with this Church he found out that they were these fanatic born again Christians. To them everything was a sin. But despite all that Kris could not turn down his only friends. His favorite time as a teen is when all the Church youth group went camping. Boy did he have fun . He loved camping with them . they always did the most amazing activities. Kris and his friends would never ever sleep during camp outs , instead they would wander off exploring into the desert then come back and play pranks on people who were sleeping. His friend Martin did the meanest prank . One guy was sleeping and they sprayed all of his back with Deep heat. The poor boy woke up screaming in pain because the deep heat burnt him. Kris would prank sleeping guys and girls by putting their hands in hot water until they pied their pants. Kris finally felt like he belonged. He had friends and in school he had no one. He stayed best friends with Sarah and Liz. With them he felt invincible. During Halloween Kris . Sarah and Liz would instead of going trick or treating would go to all the American school of Dubai compounds and ring the door bell and egg people. Halloween is Kris's favorite time of the year, he felt it was magical night where anything could happen. Kris had a secret he never shared with anyone and that secret is that he was gay. He always knew that he was gay. In school he fell in love with a guy called Marcus Pederson. Marcus was from Norway. Kris never told him he loved him. Kris once invited him to his house and performed for him the song hero by Marian Carey. Marcus looked like a mixture between Hayden Christensen and Ryan Philippe. Kris not only fell in love with how beautiful Marcus was but how modest and kind he was. Kris was shocked that Marcus was not popular in school. I guess looks are not everything. Kris then left the school at 17 and finished his G.E.D. Marcus then went back to Norway and Kris was so heart broken and really sad because he never told him how he truly felt about him. He really enjoyed it and became popular there. But he hung out with the wrong crowd and began smoking marijuana and taking ecstasy pills. One his friends Bev would get him ecstasy pills and each pill cost $40. His parents spoiled him non stop. Kris's favorite person in the world was his grandmother Lily. She always showered him with love and gifts. His first commercial was for the drink Snapple. He then did a diet book and got great reviews. But because of the medication he gained so much weight buried the book and had to do a gastric bypass surgery. And months later Kris lost a whopping 100 pounds. Kris met Lady Gag in September 2014 at her concert in Dubai. He said it was the best concert experience he ever met. In 2017 Kris said that Jesus healed him from his mental illness on his radio show. He still takes his anti psychotic medication but a very low dosage. When his sister Cio gave birth to a baby girl called Zoey .. Kris was the godfather and his aunt Litsa was the godmother. Not only does he love Zoey so much but to him she is like a his own daughter .. She is a real Shirley Temple .. Very smart And incredibly adorable and although Kris said he will never have kids he still dreams of finding the right man to settle down with and Mary.
